Ten Days of Hayes: From Black Moses to Wattstax

THE TEN DAYS OF HAYES, remembering the music and life of Isaac Lee Hayes JR between the anniversary of his death August 10, 2008 and the anniversary of his birth August 20, 1942. "Never Can Say Goodbye" a hit from his 1971 album "Black Moses",the second of THREE BIG hit versions of the song written by Clifton Davis, who also had fame as an actor on TV sitcoms "That's My Mama" & "Amen".

The song "Never Can Say Goodbye" was also a hit by the JACKSON FIVE and GLORIA GAYNOR.

The success of Isaac Hayes "Black Moses" and the soundtrack of "Shaft" pretty much proved that Isaac Hayes was the superstar soul man of the early 1970's. He began to tour regularly and by 1973 was one of the headliners in the concert film "Wattstax"

Along the way there was another soul superstar by the name of AL GREEN, with his monster hit "Let's Stay Together". And like many fantastic popular songs, Isaac Hayes had his own take on it with this 1972 instrumental.

And then Isaac Hayes goes to the movies. That will be the next post as The Rainbow Soul Journal celebrates the life and music of Isaac Hayes up until his Birthday August 20th.
