August 2nd in SOUL music history.

Born on this day, Doris Coley of The Shirelles (1941-2000)
Died on this day, Ron Townson of The Fifth Dimension (1933-2001) and James Jamerson, a legendary bass player for THE FUNK BROTHERS, Motown's studio musicians. The men who provided the backbone for the Detroit sound. James Jamerson died on August 2nd, 1983 at the age of 47.

Music selections of the day: Marvin Gaye's "What's Going ON" and "Darling Dear" by The Jackson Five. Both with James Jamerson playing on bass.
