What about the daytime shows?

I thought I would be "Fair and Balanced" and post as much information about the television stations that refused to broadcast "The Book of Daniel", a new series on NBC. Religious groups targeted "The Book of Daniel" for protest because of the show's storyline which they consider to be derogatory to their faith.

My local TV station recieved many calls asking for the show to be banned. But what I find baffling is that the same station has shown many TALK and COURT shows with topics that may be deemed offensive to someone of a Christian Faith. My local NBC station broadcasts "Jerry Springer", "Maury" Povich, Divorce Court and Judge Judy each weekday. On these shows there are topics that include sex, adultry, immorality and criminal activity available to viewers of all ages on a daily basis. Some of these shows display acts of violence. But there has NEVER been an outcry over these daily programs. Maybe an occasional call or letter sent to a TV station or an advertiser, but never with the amount of volume as the recent protest over "The Book of Daniel".

My local NBC station chose to NOT censor "The Book of Daniel". What I find disturbing is that some of the television stations that did agree to CENSOR "The Book of Daniel" also broadcast either "Jerry Springer" or "Maury" in their daytime schedule.

I decided to look at the websites of the stations who censored "The Book of Daniel" to see any available comments from station personnel AND to check their program listings. I have listed their comments below and indicated whenever they also broadcast trashy daytime tv. Am I exposing a little hyprocracy? I hope so! Because broadcasters who have gotten away with providing trash daytime television for years have a hell of a nerve playing big brother with their viewers over a ficitional program that will be shown late at night.

And people who feel neglected by TV stations "anti christian" or "anti-family" programing should protest ALL shows that may fit that bill, not just some fictional TV program that many protesters have not even seen.

Here are the television stations who censored "The Book of Daniel"

UPDATE -- Statement Issued Regarding Pre-Emption of NBC's "The Book of Daniel"

WTWO Station General Manager Duane Lammers today [January 6] has issued a revised statement regarding WTWO`s decision to preempt the NBC show "The Book of Daniel".

"After reading and hearing much of the reporting on my decision to pre-empt "The Book of Daniel", let me update my comments as follows:

"My first obligation to my station is to protect the license granted by the FCC. Current regulations could subject this station to severe punishment, up to and including revocation of our license if even a single person's objection to the FCC found material broadcast by our station to be indecent or obscene. Subsequent viewing of the material within "The Book of Daniel" leaves me no choice but to do my job and uphold the standards of our community."

=====================

This is the statement issued on January 4:

"Our relationship with NBC always provided for the right to reject programming. I am reaffirming that right to let them know I will not allow them to make unilateral decisions affecting our viewers.

"Second, I want to draw attention to the worst offenders of indecency on television ... the cable industry, which faces no decency regulations, nor a license renewal.

"If my action causes people in our community to pay more attention to what they watch on television, I have accomplished my mission."
