"Book of Daniel" Censorship expands

Now SEVEN stations have decided to censor NBC's "The Book of Daniel". However NBC has made arrangements to broadcast on another station in some of the cities affected.

Television stations are getting thousands of complaints through an organized effort by religous groups who want the show off the air. They are jamming phone systems at some stations and flooding stations and advertisers with e-mails. And sadly, the protests are working in small form. There are few advertisers for "The Book of Daniel" and the protestors can now boast about the largest market area they have conquered. Nashville, Tennessee.

Joining Terre Haute, Beaumont, Little Rock, Meridian and Tupelo Missisippi are Amarillo, TX and Nashville, TN. WSMV ch4 in Nashville fell to the pressure of hundreds of calls that shut down their voicemail along with letters sent on church letterhead. The letters impressed the general manager of WSMV enough for him to declare that "The Book of Daniel" was not appropiate for the citizens of Nashville. Well I guess Nashville can now feel safe and secure.

Now there is a website targeting Knoxville's WBIR who will continue to broadcast the show despite all of the complaints. (www.wbirboycott.com). The management of WBIR like many cities has basically told their audiences that if they don't like "The Book of Daniel" they could change their channel. They are allowing their audience to make decisions for themselves. And the religious community is not accepting that.

So the cities where television viewers CANNOT make their own decisions are:
Nashville, TN
Little Rock, AR
Beaumont, TX
Amarillo, TX
Tupelo, MS
Meridian, MS
Terre Haute, IN

And what an impact those cities make! 7 out of 232 NBC stations with a combined audience potential that is still less than 1% of anyone possibly watching.

Way to go American Family ASSociation (AFA) and Focus on the Family. You are so dedicated in your protest of "The Book of Daniel". Too bad you weren't as dedicated to keeping "Touched by an Angel" and other shows that are more to your liking ON the air. And what about the success of your family friendly PAX TV network? You know, that "family friendly" TV network that was hanging on by a thread and changed its name to "I" (independent television) and noboby noticed the change. And many of the PAX broadcast affiliates have returned to their former status as a home shopping channel. How entertaining! The whole family can watch the big kitchen knife sale, followed by the jewelery sale and the bread maker show.
