Many of you reading this may have been linked to this from my personal Facebook account.
On New Years Eve, the last day of the dreaded year of 2013 I hinted in a status update that I was considering a song dedication to the year of 2013. And I am known for posting a lot of music and often using music as a commentary. So I decided to play it as if I knew (through a number of "likes" to my post) if any of my friends and family were looking forward to my doing anything like this I would post the song. But I never indicated what song I would post. Oh...but a few people not only know me but also have shared a similar opinion on the year and musically share an opinion on a specific song. However I'm going to surprise the folks on Facebook. The song you were thinking I was going to use to dedicate to the dreaded year of 2013 is NOT the one I am going to dedicate...on Facebook. Because that would have been too easy.
So to start off a new year for my old blogging account I offer that song here as an expression of happiness that 2013 is finally OVER.
Gone with the year are all of the negativity and horrible experiences, the suffering from depression and financial problems, the medical concerns, the horrible and heartbreaking news stories and struggles that I witnessed friends going through. Gone are some of the petty negative people who caused unnecessarily big and embarrassing meltdowns. The song is dedicated especially those negative and petty people, from Western Maryland, to Macon Georgia, to a few people the West coast. It will be my pleasure to play a song for you in celebration of losing you in 2013 and thankfully you and all drama shall not be a part of a new year. I'm looking forward to that.

And now on to 2014 a little stronger because of the lessons of 2013. 2013 may have been a rotten year but it didn't defeat me in the least. I hope everyone reading this didn't allow 2013 to defeat them but every struggle will make them strong enough to take on 2014 prepared for battle. Because success against struggle is the best "F you" you can give to the forces of evil.

No harm or insult intended. Only expressing opinion.
I haven't blogged as much as I would like. I really would like to do it as often as possible and grow this into a regular and enjoyable read for anyone willing. I thank each and every one of you who took the time to read any of my blog posts over the years in this format and in its previous format.
A few times my blog posts have turned people away on a personal level. Perhaps its from something I said and later posted links to my personal Facebook page. I would notice a decrease in the number of facebook friends. And this happened recently after posting my rant comparing politics to cancer. One of the people I noticed to have unfriended me on Facebook was a very interesting person who has mutual friendships with people I have known personally for many years although we have only met in person once. We never communicated much but I feel the timing between his removing me from his friends list and my posting of the blog may be over the extreme nature of my blog expression.
If that person or a close friend of his should happen to read this I must express that what I post on my blog is never intended to directly insult anyone. If it is then I clearly identify the target of my scorn. It is never intended for personal attack of any friend or acquaintence or relations of those people. I am expressing an opinion and we aren't likely to agree on everything but I do appreciate conversation. If I should say something you consider to be out of line please feel free to share that with me. Lets give each other the chance to make conversation out of it and come to an understanding.
I used to joke about some people going to prison and the possibility of a person being raped in prison. One such example was when the singer George Michael was sent to prison for a crime he committed and I said something about his being gay and may enjoy having a boyfriend that was also his cellmate. When I jokingly posted comments regarding that one person responded that she felt that rape jokes were never funny, ever. This happened more than once where I made a rather immature joke and the same person expressed her dislike in the joke. Then upon further observation of her postings I realized that the subject of assault and abuse appeared to be personal.
Out of respect for privacy I didn't dare ask so I assume that my postings triggered a reaction based on circumstances within that person's life or from that person's field of work. Neither of which I knew for sure nor was any of my business. But it got me thinking about how with some subjects it can really hit an individual hard on a personal level that I could never understand for not having any experience of my own on the matter. So with that along with the seriousness of that topic I no longer intentionally make jokes about prison inmates and sexual assault. I think twice about the time and place out of respect to those I know who may read it. And while thinking twice the result often is that the expression just isn't worth it.
My recent post where I suggested that politics is akin to having cancer could have triggered a negative reaction for people who have dealt with cancer in their family or personally. I believe this may be the case with the recent post and the person who unfriended me. But with no communication between me and that person this will never be confirmed. But in any case, I never meant to insult anyone. You just never know how simple topics and expressions could touch people.
For me, the subject of demensia hits close to home. My mother had it during her many years of illness. Only thing is for me dealing with it was very distant because of my living in another state and my sister was the one at home taking care of our mother. Still I don't consider demensia to be a laughing matter. Perhaps I should consider that some may have had to watch a loved one suffer so much with cancer as it is so terribly common and posting an angry blog as I did was poor judgement.
I can't take back what I posted. I stand by my opinion and you can see that if you read the details within. The regret from me is that it may have caused some to be offended for personal reasons unrelated to the subject matter. And to those especially the one who unfriended me on Facebook around the same time I posted my blog, I sincerely apologize for any offense I may have caused.
As I continue to blog I hope to find more creative ways to get my point across. I also may step on toes because I refuse to sugarcoat anything. And I hope the readers will look carefully within and between the lines.

Going Down? (Bishop Eddie Long)
I am so sorry! I apologize for my last post has been quite a while ago. I missed the opportunity to post birthdays of legends in music and I missed many opportunities to blog about important issues especially in the LGBT community over recent weeks. But those stories are far from over. I will have things to say later.
On to THIS blog post. The title "Going Down" can have many meanings. In this case it is in reference to the current story of an Atlanta based preacher who's recent practice of "going down" may lead to his empire "coming down". I speak of a man who calls himself "Bishop" Eddie Long of the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia Georgia. A member of the clergy known for his staunch anti-gay beliefs and sermons that even called for the DEATH of gay and lesbian people.
But the man who calls himself "Bishop" Eddie Long was recently sued by several young men who claim that the man who calls himself "Bishop" Eddie Long engaged in inappropriate sexual activity with the young men of the same gender. Some of the accusations actually include "going down". (You know the reference)
I am focused on the phrase "Going Down" because of my best "tweet" ever. On the day after news of Eddie Long's lawsuits came out, the popular website Facebook had several outages. Yes, the website Facebook kept going offline, or "going down" and thus my "tweet" simply said "Today Facebook went down almost as much as Bishop Eddie Long" and the tweet was followed and retweeted by many including popular bloggers like Pam Spaulding of Pam's House Blend. A blog that is VERY much covering the "Bishop" Eddie Long story.
Anyway I will be making my own comments about this as more of the story "comes out", another GAY phrase we can use regarding the man who calls himself "Bishop" Eddie Long.
So on to todays "Going Down" songs, dedicated to the man who calls himself "Bishop" Eddie Long.
BUT FIRST, the truth about the man who calls himself "Bishop" Eddie Long and so many other members of the clergy and politicians. Telling it like it IS! The Great Millie Jackson's song "Hypocrisy"
Now that I got that out of the way. Here are some "Going Down" songs. Some of them might be in Eddie Long's collection.
Perhaps the man who calls himself "Bishop" Eddie Long likes the classic soul music of the 1970's. Like Rose Royce's "I'm Going Down" from the movie "Car Wash"
Perhaps Eddie Long played the Rose Royce song while he was missing one of the young bucks in his congregation. Hmmmm?
And following "I'm Going Down" perhaps Eddie Long was inspired to meet his next young buck by singing "I Wanna Get Next To You".
Oh yes, the man who calls himself "Bishop" Eddie Long was accused of giving teenage boys rides in cars like his (ROLLS ROYCE) BENTLEY with the thought in the back of his mind songs like "ooh boy I love you so, never never ever gonna let you go, once I get my hands on you"
So after singing those songs, the man who calls himself "Bishop" Eddie Long went from Rose Royce to R. Kelly, creeping on the "Down Low" and hoping that nobody would know.
But now that the boys have grown to men, it might be time for the man who calls himself "Bishop" Eddie Long to pay for "Feeling On Their Booty"
Yeah, the mighty preacher man is going down. To be continued for sure!

An RSJ blog "Flashback" Political friend requests on Facebook and a hint of the RSJ blogger's political beliefs.
THIS IS A REPOST OF AN ENTRY FROM THE FORMER "E-BLOG: Yeah I said it" from November 2009.
The person I was speaking about was running for congress in 2010 but several others also stepped forward to run and the person that prompted my blog post never filed and fortunately did not run for office.

I thought I would share this from my Facebook account. Someone who is interested in running for congress in my district recently made a friend request on Facebook. I ignored the request and less than a day later, the friend request from this aspiring politician was repeated.
Now it happens that I don't agree with most of this poltician's platform but we happen to be in one of the same Facebook groups on a specific topic that we do agree with. But our ONE agreed topic doesn't meet the qualifications for approval as a "friend" on Facebook. So in my status update I posted the following.
Message to politicians: I am NOT a Democrat nor am I a Republican. I am fiscally conservative and very socially liberal. I don't impose my religious beliefs on others and try to make them law of the land. I support same-sex marriages. I don't beleive in discrimination of any kind. I am not ruled by any one party line ...and consider all sides with an open mind. Think about this before you send me a friend request.
Then in the comment section after the status post I continued with this.
I call a spade a spade. I think "profiling" is a good thing. It's a shame that a few rotten people in a group have to make "profiling" a necessity.
I think that since I was born a male and cannot give birth, I believe that no male should have the right to tell a woman what to do with their body. If MAN doesn't agree with abortion then MAN should insist that they keep their pants zipped up. And since those who speak out the most on Abortion are OLD MEN, then lets ban viagra too.
(do I sound radical or crazy there? Don't care!)
I support tax reform, specifically THE FAIR TAX (www.fairtax.org) and I am angry that these ideas were HIJACKED by nutcases in the form of "tea parties".
I also watch FOX news! Except that pathetic little republican elf that comes on at 9pm. I just can't stand either him or the drug addict thats on the radio right now. And while people claim certain news networks and personalities are biased......GUESS WHAT...They are all biased! And I never watch a political event on any news network because of it. Olberman is just as off the wall as O'Reilly. Thank god for C-SPAN!
I could go on and on but its probably best that I return to keeping my political beliefs to myself. Keeps the blood pressure at a decent level.
Now back to my lunch!

Actually this blog stepped on some toes a short while back and it proved that we all have "issues" but not everyone is bold enough to admit or express their issues publically. Well here I am, Edric Floyd and another blog has been posted.
